The back.

Or bottom.  Whichever you prefer.  It’s also of black walnut.

First I resaw 2 pieces 1/4″ thick, 4-1/4″ wide, and about 32″ long.  I run them through the planer until they’re about 3/16″ thick.  Then I joint the edges so that the seam is as perfect as possible, then glue them together.

After the glue has cured at least an hour, I plane both sides until they are flat and clean.   Then I take material off until it’s just over 1/8″ thick.  Then the outline is cut out.

Then the top is done, pretty much just like the back, except it’s made of western red cedar.
